How to Use the AFT Calculator

  1. 1

Select your standard (General or Combat MOS), gender, and age group

Combat MOS applies to soldiers in one of the 21 designated Combat-Arms MOS codes and uses sex-neutral scoring. Age on test day determines the correct age group.

  2. 2

Enter your raw scores for MDL, HRP, SDC, PLK, and 2MR

Enter deadlift weight in pounds, push-up reps, and times for Sprint-Drag-Carry, Plank, and Two-Mile Run using the separate minutes and seconds fields.

  3. 3

See your event scores, total out of 500, pass/fail result, and promotion points instantly

Results update live as you type. You will see per-event point bars color-coded red, amber, and green, your total score out of 500, your pass/fail status, and promotion points earned.

The 5 Army Fitness Test Events

MDL

3-Rep Max Deadlift

Tests lower-body strength and grip using a hex bar with weight plates and safety collars. The soldier performs 3 repetitions at maximum weight. This event reflects the operational demands of lifting and moving heavy equipment in combat environments.

Higher weight = better

HRP

Hand-Release Push-Up

Tests upper-body muscular endurance and core strength. The soldier performs maximum repetitions in 2 minutes, fully releasing hands from the ground between each rep. This movement pattern mirrors the pushing and pressing demands of Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills.

Higher reps = better

SDC

Sprint-Drag-Carry

Tests anaerobic capacity, speed, and functional strength across 5 shuttle runs of 50 meters each. Events include sprinting, dragging a sled, lateral shuffles, and carrying kettlebells. Lower time equals a higher score.

Lower time = better

PLK

Plank Hold

Tests core strength and isometric hold endurance. The soldier maintains a straight plank position for as long as possible. This is the only AFT event with gender-neutral scoring identical for all soldiers regardless of gender.

Higher time = better · gender-neutral

2MR

2-Mile Run

Tests aerobic endurance and cardiovascular fitness over a 2-mile course on flat terrain. The event reflects the sustained physical output required for combat support operations. Lower time equals a higher score.

Who Takes the AFT?

The Army Fitness Test applies to all soldiers across Active Duty, the Army Reserve, and the Army National Guard. The AFT replaced the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) on June 1, 2025. Both the General standard and Combat MOS standard use age-normed scoring, with Combat MOS soldiers following a sex-neutral standard. The next testing cycle runs through June 1, 2026.
