The Army Fitness Test contributes up to 30 points toward your total promotion point score for SGT and SSG boards. These points come from the Physical Fitness category, which has a maximum of 120 points total.
Your AFT score is one of several factors in your total promotion point score. Other categories include military education, civilian education, awards, and duty performance.
To maximize your AFT contribution, aim for a total score of 400 or above.
30 Points
400 and above
Maximum contribution. Achievable with strong performance across all 5 events. Aim for 80 or more points per event on average.
20 Points
380 to 399
Strong performance. Competitive for most boards. Focus on your weakest event to push into the 30-point tier.
10 Points
350 to 379
Meets the passing threshold for promotion point contribution. Consider targeted training on weak events.
0 Points
Below 350
No promotion points from the AFT. Passing the AFT with 300 or more on the General standard does not guarantee promotion points. You need 350 or above for any contribution.
Soldiers who score 465 or above on the AFT are exempt from Army body fat standards. If you are near this threshold, pushing for 465 or above has dual benefits: maximum promotion points plus body fat exemption.
